Protection of birds
PLEASE LOOK UNDER IMAGES "Birds seen on Widmer Fields" and download the pdf file to see some of the wonderful birds who visit/inhabit Widmer Fields.
Can I recommend that you take a walk round our wonderful fields and stop from time to time to look at and listen to the wonderful birds that can be found there?
The lists I have created are of birds that I have seen and heard round the fields of Widmer End on many walks over the last 5 years. This covers the fields now owned by the Trust but also the rest of the fields over to Hazlemere Rec and Cockshoot Wood. I am sure that other people have seen more birds and that other birds remain unnoticed by anybody but in total I have seen and definitely identified (sometimes with the help of others) 84 species.
I have created a summary which groups the birds into several categories from those seen regularly through to the rarer birds just passing through on migration but this is not by any means a precise split.
I have also created a separate more detailed document with a few comments and pictures of the birds which I hope is useful and interesting. I must give great thanks to a number of people who have generously allowed me to use their photos in particular Richard Billiard, Martin Parr, Mike Collard, Andrew Killick and Mike Warren. In addition there are some of my photos and to complete the set a few downloaded from Wikepedia with full permission for unlimited use as long as the photographer is acknowledged (see below). A full list of the originator of each photo is available.
If you spot any errors or have any notable additions or see anything rare that you are sure I would like to know about please contact me.
Good birding
